Dengue Cases in Cagayan Province Increase
TUGUEGARAO CITY – Dengue (hemorrhagic fever) cases increase in Cagayan province. This news flash was repeatedly run on the television over DZMM’s radio program on TV last August 7, 2008 (as a running banner ad) on the bottom part of the TV screen. True it is, but this is because of the continuous rain battering this part of the country due to the natural phenomena called Typhoon Season, where breeding areas of Dengue mosquitoes are mass produced by the non-stop rains. And because of this fact and the gifted foresight of our No. 1 City Councilor, Past President Pastor Ross Resuello (RY 2005-2006), the Rotary Club of Tuguegarao-Citadel, led by Charter President Alejandro “Jude” Lingan, launched and conducted an awareness project by pasting/tacking Anti-Dengue Posters in the whole eastern and southwest barangays/villages. An Anti-dengue Awareness campaign/seminar at Ugac Sur Elementary School and Tuguegarao West Central School, among others. Anti-Dengue pamphlets containing important information on Dengue Fever were also distributed to parents and members of the community. Also with members of the Rotary Club of Tuguegarao-Citadel was Dr. James Guzman, City Health Officer of Tuguegarao City. We get Dengue through the bite of an Aedes mosquito which is infected with any one out of four dengue viruses which is common in tropical and sub-tropical areas such as the Philippines. Symptoms include from mild fever to high fever accompanied by severe headaches including pain in the eyes, muscle pains, joint pains, rashes, etc. This kind of illness requires immediate medical attention. ☺ View MORE PHOTOS>

This is one of the possible byproducts that experts from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) are now discovering in partnership with the Rural Improvement Club (RIC), whose members are mostly fisherfolk of Buguey town, some 130 kilometers north of the regional capital, Tuguegarao City. x x x

Tuguegarao City - The members of the various rotary clubs in the city welcomed the arrival of the members of the Rotary Foundation's Group Study Exchange (GSE) from Long Island, New York, USA. The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world. The flagship project of the foundation is the Polio Plus Project. In the 1980s, 1,000 children were infected by the disease every day in 125 countries. Today, polio cases have declined by 99 percent, with fewer than two thousand cases reported in 2006. Two billion children have been immunized, five million have been spared disability, and over 250,000 deaths from polio have been prevented. The Rotary Foundation’s Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for businesspeople and professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers. The program provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits in paired areas of different countries. For four to six weeks, team members experience the host country's culture and institutions, observe how their vocations are practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas. In a typical four-week tour, applicants participate in five full days of vocational visits, 15 to 20 club presentations, 10 to 15 formal visits and social events, two to three days at the district conference, three to four hours per day of cultural and site tours, and three to four hours per day of free time with host families. click to VIEW PHOTOS >>>
It is very cold down here lately, today...my breath turned into white vapor as if I was smoking a cigarette... more like a smoking dragon when I went out of the house. The previous days were colder still! It is definitely NOT NORMAL, and I am beginning to seriously consider the global warming scare.
We currently hold the record of having the hottest temperature recorded in Philippine history. But as always, Tuguegarao is the home of the extremes (in temperature at least). Like in April 21, 1912 Tuguegarao had 42C (108F); in May 11. 1969 we had the record hottest at 42.2C, this record has not yet been broken. Foreigners usually come here because of the temperature and usually say "The heat is terrific!"
In Baguio/Benguet I am very sure it is even colder. I remeber the news about frost in that area, and that is scary, because of the danger of destruction to our food supply (agricultural products). One kilo of talong at one time cost P80.00 because scarcity. READ ABOUT IT>
